Not sure if your car is still insured, or a travelling friend left his car with you and you want to confirm it has valid insurance? Find out how below!
Perhaps you were living in the UK or another country that has an online motor insurance database that allows you to check the insurance status of your, and others’, vehicles. This, however, isn’t the case in the UAE, but there are certainly ways to get that information.
Checking to know if your vehicle is insured
- If it’s your car you’re wanting to check, it’s relatively simple to do so. You can revert to your vehicle’s licence, and it will include the name of your insurance provider and the expiration date of your insurance policy.
- In the event that you don’t have your vehicle’s licence or “Mulkiya” to hand, you can certainly call the RTA and give them the vehicle registration plate number and ask them to provide you with that information, though you might get asked some questions to verify ownership of the vehicle and in accordance with any data protection regulations.
Checking if someone else’s vehicle is insured
Alternatively, you might want to enquire about someone else’s vehicle insurance information because you dented their parked car, and want to inform their insurance company or email them the police report that you’re at fault. In this case, you may still reach out to the RTA or check with the police officer doing the report. Naturally, this would be considered on a case-by-case basis.
