Nurses are like the heart of a hospital. They’re there when you’re born, they’re there when you’re sick, and they’re there to help make things better.

  1. Healers and Comforters: Imagine you’re feeling unwell. Your head is throbbing, your throat feels scratchy, and you just want to feel better. Who’s the first person you see when you reach the hospital? It’s a nurse! Nurses are like health superheroes. They might not have x-ray vision or superhuman strength, but they have something even more powerful – they have the knowledge and the skills to help you feel better.
  2. Teachers and Guides: Now, think about when you’re confused. Let’s say you’ve got to take medicine but are unsure how. Who helps you understand? Again, it’s a nurse! They don’t just heal. They also guide and teach. They explain what’s happening in a way that’s easy for you to understand.
  3. Friends and Supporters: Picture yourself feeling scared or nervous. The hospital can be a big, intimidating place. But nurses are there to reassure you, to make you feel safe and cared for. They’re a friend when you need one the most.
  4. Local Heroes: In the UAE, nurses have a special role. They’re working hard every day to ensure the UAE’s people are healthy and happy. And the country is supporting them back by investing in nursing education and training.

From healing to teaching, from supporting to caring, nurses in the UAE are the superheroes in scrubs. They make a world of difference in everyone’s lives every single day.

Growing and Learning: Nursing Education in the UAE

Since 2010, learning to be a nurse in the UAE has improved with amazing updates. There are five main places where people can go to learn to become nurses. Below are the schools:

  •  University of Wollongong
  • University of Sharjah
  • Gulf Medical University
  • RAK College of Nursing
  • Fatima College of Health Sciences

However, we still need more people to join these programs, especially local Emirati students. That’s why special campaigns have encouraged more people to become nurses.

Some of these nursing schools focus a lot on teaching technical skills, like how to give an injection or check a patient’s vitals. But they might offer less attention to other skills like decision-making or critical thinking, which are important in nursing. There are also some challenges. For example, there are only sometimes enough good places for nursing students to practice their skills. And finding teachers who are well-qualified to teach advanced nursing skills can be hard.

There’s also room to grow in teaching more specialized nursing skills. For example, only one place in the UAE offers special Master’s programs in nursing, like adult medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, psychiatric and mental health nursing, and community health nursing. But these programs could be even better with more places for students to practice these special skills and more teachers who are experts in these areas.

In the future, we hope to see more advanced and specialized programs for nurses. As nursing advances worldwide, the UAE is also looking to help nurses learn more and become even better at what they do. After all, better-trained nurses mean better care for everyone!

The Progress So Far

In the past, the nursing profession in the UAE had to face many challenges. But like superheroes, they didn’t let these challenges stop them. Instead, they used these challenges to grow stronger and better.

  1. Overcoming Challenges: The nursing journey in the UAE has been like an epic adventure story filled with thrilling chapters. There were challenges, like dark stormy nights in a report. But like brave heroes, the nurses faced these challenges with courage and determination.
  2. Growing Stronger: With each challenge, the nursing profession in the UAE grew stronger and better, like superheroes training for their next big mission. They learned from each experience and used it to improve.
  3. Amazing Achievements: After all their hard work and dedication, nurses in the UAE have achieved some truly amazing things. It’s like they’ve reached the top of a tall mountain, looking back at how far they’ve come.
  4. Training More Heroes: One of the greatest achievements is the growth in local nurses. The UAE has created special nursing programs to train more people in nursing. Think of it as a superhero academy where ordinary people become extraordinary nurses.

Nursing in the UAE has come a long way, from overcoming challenges to training new heroes. And the journey isn’t over yet! There are still more adventures and achievements to come.

Now, let’s look into the future. What’s next for nurses in the UAE? Well, the future looks very exciting!

  1. Upward Trajectory: Just like a rocket propelling into space, the future of nursing in the UAE is rising. We anticipate tremendous growth and advancement, akin to a promising startup scaling its operations successfully.
  2. Broadening Horizons: Specialized nursing programs are like advanced coursework in a field of study. They equip nurses with the tools to deal with specific, often complex, health scenarios. We hope to see an expansion of such programs, providing more diverse and in-depth learning avenues for our nurses.
  3. Elevating the Profession: Advanced nursing roles such as “Clinical Nurse Specialist” are relatively scarce in the UAE. In the future, we hope to witness a shift in this trend. It’s akin to seeing more students opting for higher university degrees, elevating the overall standard of the profession.
  4. Regulatory Framework: The development of more comprehensive guidelines and regulations will provide a roadmap for the growth of the nursing profession. Just as traffic rules make roads safer, these guidelines will pave the way for a more efficient and effective healthcare system.
  5. Impacting Lives: At its core, nursing is about serving the community and improving lives. Like everyday heroes, nurses will continue to provide care, impart knowledge, and offer emotional support to their patients. They’re essentially the linchpin holding the healthcare system together.

Thus, the future of nursing in the UAE holds great promise, packed with growth opportunities and the potential to make a difference truly. The journey is exciting, and we’re eager to see what lies beyond the horizon.
