To find more about how similar car insurance looks like in India, read the blog below!
There’s nothing more exciting than enhancing your life in your home country after all the efforts you’ve put in whilst away. If you’re thinking of buying a car for yourself or a family member back home in India and want to know if the insurance buying process is similar or different than the one here in the UAE, then this blog should be of interest to you!
Types of Insurance: Third-Party Liability Vs. Comprehensive
Akin to the UAE, in India, you have two types of car insurance: Comprehensive and Third-Party Liability. And if you still find it confusing to decide on one, we suggest that you take a look at our previous blog: Should I Purchase Comprehensive or Third-Party Car Insurance?
With Comprehensive car insurance, you are covered for your own damages in case you get in an accident where you are found at fault or an incident where there is no other person involved: while with Third-Party Liability car insurance you’ll be left to pay for your own damages out of your own pocket, and will only be covered for any damages you cause to third parties vehicles or properties. Own damage is excluded.
Optional Add-ons
Of course, as with UAE car insurance, Comprehensive car insurance doesn’t mean you are fully covered. There are still many scenarios where you might find yourself exposed to unexpected payments, which is why you should consider extensions or additional covers to your insurance policy.
Some of these may save you precious time and money when your car breaks down at the side of the road, pay for a replacement cover when you need an alternative vehicle, or even pay back your car’s complete insured value in case it is written off with a cover called Return to Invoice or RTI: that protects owners of new and less than 5 years old cars against theft or being written-off by reimbursing them the car’s total insured value! Compared to the UAE how similar are India’s car insurance system
Both countries have somewhat similar car insurance systems, in that they require drivers to have valid car insurance, and have mandated Third-Party Liability insurance as the minimum legal standard for car insurance. Both offer an option for the driver to upgrade to a Comprehensive cover, as well as choose to extend the policy to cover additional features and benefits, although these will differ in their nature between the two countries.
